History of ABCM:
The ABCM was formed in 2006 to manage the certification exams
originally developed by Marriott Heart Foundation and the American
College of Cardiovascular Nurses. The Advanced ECG exams were
originally developed in 1969 by Henry Marriott, MD, FACC for ECG
panel readers. Later, in 1991 he was joined by Jonni Cooper
who assisted him in the development of several new levels of ECG
certification to meet the needs of all of the above listed personnel,
not just for the hospital panel readers. And, in 1998 the two gathered
a team of expert nursing educators to assist in the development of the
nation's first CVN Board Certification for Cardiac Nurses which was
kicked off at a preconference meeting of the Annual Scientific Sessions
of the American College of Cardiology in March, 2000 in
Anaheim, CA.
The exams are offered on
an international scale and have recently been officiated over in
several foreign countries. Direct further question to the FAQ
section for help and if you do not find your answers there, contact
